Cringleford Crackerjacks Pre-school is run by an experienced and dedicated team who are accountable to the management committee. Our Manager, Karen Latoy,  is responsible for the day to day management and leadership of the staff in planning, delivering and assessing each session.

Our staff are:

Karen Latoy – Manager

I have been working at Crackerjacks for approximately 14 years, having first become involved as a parent a few years earlier.  As a parent, I enjoyed being a volunteer and I joined the committee to take on the role of Treasurer.

When my own children left Crackerjacks, I stayed as a volunteer until I was offered a role as a permanent member of staff.  Once in that role, I studied first for an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and then for a BA (Hons) degree in Early Years, which I completed in 2013.

I was delighted to be appointed as the Manager at Crackerjacks in September 2015.  I have also completed a level 3 Forest School Leader’s qualification and I love taking the children to the woods for our regular Forest School sessions.

I am also the Safeguarding Lead Practitioner.

Kelly Allen – Deputy Manager

I have been working with the children at Crackerjacks since January 2014 and I am a qualified Early Years Practitioner.  I am originally from Peru and moved to Cringleford fifteen years ago. I have a lovely daughter who attended Crackerjacks.

My degree is in Modern Languages after which I studied Child Development and the Early Years Framework at postgraduate level, gaining Early Year Professional Status (EYPS) in 2010.  Previously I have taught Spanish to adults for Norfolk County Council.

Through my studies at University, being a parent and interacting with the children at Crackerjacks and other settings, I have become a reflective practitioner  with a keen interest in how the children solve and enjoy the different challenges they face at preschool.

Sarah Ross – Pre school assistant

I am married with two grown up daughters and I am the longest serving member of the Crackerjacks’ team.

I originally trained and worked as a children’s nurse and also worked on the Special Baby Care Unit for premature babies in Sheffield and London.  I started to work in nursery education in London at a Montessori school and then I arrived at Crackerjacks, where I have been happy for so many years.

The areas that I feel are my favourites are “story time” where I enjoy preparing and reading a story for the whole group, usually at the end of a session and also “music and movement” sessions.

Miranda Avery – Pre school assistant

I have been a key person at Crackerjacks since January 2014.

I am NNEB trained (nursery nurse) and have over 27 years’ experience . My career started as a nanny in London in private homes which I did for many years and I am still in touch with many of those families. It was a great career and very rewarding to see them develop and grow and to feel part of the family. I also travelled a lot with the families and spent 9 months working for a French family in Paris, which was interesting!

I have my own two children, and since moving to Norfolk a few years ago from London with my family I wanted to further my early years’ experience in a formal setting, especially as my children were at full time school.

You will usually find me at Crackerjacks in the role play area, being a doctor, princess or whatever the children fancy!. I also enjoy the creative area and love watching the children exploring and expressing their creative side! I also enjoy doing group story time at the end of session and seeing the children gain enjoyment from this.

I enjoy watching my key children grow in confidence and watching their personalities develop and being part of their next educational step up to school.

Kelly Fahy – Pre school assistant

I have been working at Crackerjacks since June 2017. I love working with children, so I really enjoy coming to work.

I grew up in Suffolk and came to Norwich to go to UEA. I have a BA Honours Degree in History. After having my own two children, I was a stay at home mummy for about five years, before I decided to work as a childminder and I went on to gain my Level 3 childcare qualification.

I love books and reading and I spend lots of time in the book corner at Crackerjacks, reading stories. I also enjoy helping to encourage creativity and imaginative play.

Katie Stapleford – Pre school assistant

I first joined Crackerjacks in 2012 as a volunteer in preparation for a Social Work degree, however I came to love it so much I decided working in a pre-school setting was where I truly wanted to be. I joined as a permanent member of staff in September 2014. I also work as a nanny in the local area and love being part of the community.

I have lived in Cringleford all my life and even attended Crackerjacks pre-school as a youngster myself!

My favourite areas are outdoor play, role play, and small world, and I enjoy encouraging children’s imagination and social skills.

I am Level 3 qualified in the Children and Young People’s Workforce: Early Years Educator.

Amy Holmes – Pre school assistant

I am a mum of two young daughters, who both attended Crackerjacks – this is when I became interested in Early Years . I often helped out during my daughters’ sessions and decided to undertake my NVQ level 2 training. I was thrilled to be given bank staff work in September 2013 and even happier to be taken on as permanent staff in 2014.

I really enjoy being a key person to my allocated children  and I especially  enjoy helping the children with their arts and crafts.

Megan Sturman – Pre school assistant

I first started at Crackerjacks in 2015 as a student doing my Level 3 Child care and education training with City College Norwich, and joined as a permanent member of staff in 2016. I have always had a passion for working with children and have been babysitting children from a young age.  I grew up in Hethersett and have lived there my whole life.

My favourite things to do with the children at Crackerjacks are dancing, singing, drawing and role play. You will always find me doing one of those things!

Cheryl Phillips – Office administrator

You may also see other faces amongst the staff. These are ‘bank staff’ who are experienced and qualified practitioners who cover for us when a member of staff is unwell or attending training. We try to use the same bank staff regularly so that the children become familiar with them.

Key Person

At Crackerjacks we use a Key Person system. When your child starts with us he/she will be assigned a member of staff as their Key Person. The Key Person will oversee your child’s learning and progress. The Key Person will coordinate observations of your child at play and will record this in your child’s Learning Journal. The Key Person is your main point of contact regarding your child’s development and you will be given the opportunity to meet with your child’s Key Person, one to one, once a term. If, however, you would like to discuss anything with your child’s Key Person at any other time please have a chat with her at the start of a session and arrange a mutually convenient time.
